I have all latest versions of Mplayer/Xine/Totem/Kaffeine/Flash Player & Real player all installed. I also just installed Mozilla's, "Media Player Connectivity" plug in extension. When I'm on CNN.COM, and choose a video to watch, as soon as it gets ready to show it, it shuts down Firefox on me....EVERY TIME! How do you watch embedded videos??? Gotta be a way. Should I ditch that Firefox plugin? Screws up my browser. Thanks

The media-player connectivity plugin is correct. In what way does it "skrew up" your browser? (Were you able to play streaming video before installing the plugin? Have you lost other functionality since installing it?)

Have you checked which media player is to be used for streaming video (suggest mplayer). You must also have the codec for it and, for CNN anyway, javascript enabled.

Can you play video from any other sites, like movie trailers?

Have you run xine-check?

CNN.COM makes my browser crash (It quits) when in the process of trying to play a video. I have java script enabled, all media players are set for mplayer. Xine-Check passes with no problem, and I have all codecs installed. I can download and play movie trailers......at least I did before I installed Media Player Connectivity.

Firefox crashed there also! Something is not right! I just realized that I have not watched a video online since I did the recent Firefox UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The last update to 1.5.0.8 screwed it up. Also, can't use Beagle anymore(Says no longer compatible). Now, ANYTIME I go to download any video, Firefox crashes. WTF? This is totally ridiculous. Every time I get my computer working perfectly, they have to screw it up with an update! Why would launching a video cause it to crash? Thanks

I mean, in firefox? Can you play streamed media from a source other than CNN? However, considering:"Download"? You mean "watch", surely? ff crashes when you try to use it to watch video online?

How did you update firefox?
(Personally, my 1.5.0.8 is fine.)

Beagle has an extension for firefox - maybe you need to update the extension too? Maybe the xpi file is in a funny place (by firefox's opinion), then you may need to reinstall the extension? Or maybe the indexing is out after the upgrade.

It is odd that firefox should exit when streaming video is linked.

Without the media-player connectivity plugin, firefox should just ask you if you want to play the target with <media player>, save to disk, or cancel. Either of the first two options initiate a full download of the file.

The suggestion to use mplayerplug-in instead is a sound one, and the path I have always used in the past.

I never had that problem before the update. That I know for a fact. I have had the Mplayer plugin installed from day one. Do me a favor and click edit on Firefox, then preferences, then downloads, then tell me what your programs to use for video/audio downloads are set for. Very strange that mine has me down for Real player 9, when I have Real Player 10. Other things seem very strange on that list. What should I set them for?? As I said, I have all media players and pluging in my computer. As for the XPI Beagle file, forget it. It no longer can be used in this version of Firefox. Thanks.

I still have the same damn problem! I cannot download any movies!! I can't download trailers, feeds......Everytime it goes to connect, Firefox crashes. There has to be someone here who is very sharp that knows why. I have a feeling that my plugins are no longer compatible with the newer versions(1.5.0.8 & 2)of Firefox. It would have been nice if they let you know before hand. This is what I have installed(ALL LATEST VERSIONS): Xine-UI/Kaffeine/Mplayer/Totem/Real Player 10/Java and Flash Player. What are the correct Firefox plugins for Suse 10.0/x86 running Firefox 2?

I was very fortunate to get a glimpse of an error message before Firefox crashed. If you ever have a problem like mine, more than likely it is a plugin problem. I went into my /usr/lib/firefox/plugins folder and deleted all the links to Totem. I also removed the Mozilla-Totem-Plugin rpm in YAST. The Totem plugin no longer works with 1.5.0.8 and 2. When I go to view a video, it works perfect now with Mplayer.

The totem plugins work fine for me with ffx 1.5.0.8 under Dapper ... plugins will sometimes have to be updated with the browser - especially any third party plugins. However, I have read that where you want to view streaming media, the totem plugin will conflict and must be removed - especially where another media player is used.

I suspect your main trouble is installing so many media players. Pick one dude! There are bound to be conflicts... especially as there is no "which player do you want to use" dialog anywhere.

I didn't bring this up before as most folk just experience the movie downloading instead of streaming where you got a crash. Looked different.

Never had Firefox/Iceweasel crash viewing online media and cnn.com works just fine.

I think I had a similar problem in the past and it was the Totem plugin screwing with the Mplayer plugin.
