I am looking for some way to record a particular window on my Ubuntu 9.04 Amd64 desktop so that I can make instruction videos to send to my customers with software. I tried "Record My Desktop" but it's outdated and just not suitable. Also RMD got stuck and I had then to reboot to get the application process to stop.
I then found "Istanbul". It is a newer looking application with a better GUI and is more stable than "Record My Desktop".
I only have one problem and research on google seems to proof I'm not the only person that had problems with Istanbul.
When I playback the .ogg video in Mplayer it gives the error "could not open codec" and plays the video while flashing each frame at 1 fps. In Movie Player it plays but it flashes up at 1 frame per second also. The end result is not usable.
I found a
post and used the description in the post to convert the .ogg to .avi but the end result was a similar playback. Now both playback applications play the .avi file flashing at approx 1 fps again. The "error could not open codec" is not displayed on Mplayer with the .avi format however, the video clip has not improved in any shape or form.
Both applications are similar except Mplayer gives the error..
Has the Istanbul application been superseded?
Even if it's Non-Free s/ware it would be worth a look.
It's 2.10AM here so I'm off to bed.
Look back tomorrow..
TY.
