You don't say what OS you're on but can you use 'locate vim' to find out how many there are installed, its possible the RPM database is corrupt so locate will help you find them and check there versions.

I have CentOS 4.7. I have located vim to my entire system ans here's what I found (attached). I have tried uninstalling vim 6.3 and installed 7.2 but after wards it gave me this error: vim: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by vim) so did the install through yum and gave me this:
yum install glibc
