Iso burning problems

I am trying to install linux on a secondary computer for the first time. I am having problems burning a good iso. My hard drive on computer number 2 is formated. I have tried both mandriva 2006 and suse 10.1 on both dvds and cdrs and cdrws. It is always the same result. After the first screen I get a black screen and my computer stops running. (the crunching and the cdrom both stop) On the computer I am burning from I am running xp with a 12 speed burner. I have tried setting it to 4x. I have tried Burn for Free and Record now. What program and settings should I use for best results?

What are the specs of the second computer? What steps are you using to burn the .iso?

well, I right click it. Select my burning program. put in the cdr, and press burn. The second computer is an amd 2000xp with 512 megs of ram.

This might seem like a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. Did you try opening up the burning software and choosing "burn image" instead of the right click thing. I've use Record Now to burn .iso files but everytime I would do the right click thing I got a coaster, so I began to just open the software up fully and burn it that way and it worked. I don't know why it did not work the other way but that's software for you.

Just tried it no luck. We can now add nero to the list.

With Mandirva i get a black screen after I select what I want to do. The progress bar doesn't even make it across the screen. With Suse, Which I am really excited about trying, it goes black at a simular place. Right after loading the kernal. Then everythings stops

Have you run md5sum on the .iso files? Although I have to say that Suse gave me the same problem (or should I say opensuse). Also have you tried Knoppix liveCD on your second computer just to see if there would be any hardware conflicts?

Could be that the .iso files are corrupted. Running md5sum should let you know.
