Iscan, scanner can't be found

Fedora 7, Epson RX580 printer/scanner combo.
Sane-backend, Xsane installed.

Running xsane: xsane will run as "root", but not "user".
Running iscan "Could not send command to Scanner.
Check the scanner status"
Iscan won't run in "root" or "user".

Running sane-find-scanner: I get: USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0827 [USB2.0 MFP(Hi-Speed)]) at libusb:004:004

Printer works great using FC7 Epson RX580 driver
In /etc/sane.d/epson.conf I have a line that reads " usb 0x04b8 0x0827 "

But still scanner can't be found

Thanks
Jim
