I bought a Rockwell HSF modem.
I found the official hsf drivers for various Linux distributions on
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads.php, depending on the kernel version one's got (mine: suse 10.3 kernel 2.6.22.17_0.1_default), so I installed:
# rpm -Uvh hsfmodem-7.68.00.09full_k2.6.22.17_0.1_default-1sus
e.i586.rpm
warning: hsfmodem-7.68.00.09full_k2.6.22.17_0.1_default-1suse.i586.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 5dfbf7dc
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]

Conexant HSF softmodem driver, version 7.68.00.09full
Then my modem has been configured (during installation) as follows:
Current parameters:
("hsfconfig --info")
Config for modem unit 0: /dev/ttySHSF0
Device instance: 0-PCI-127a:2015-127a:1016
HW revision : Basic2 2.15 Standard DAA
HW profile name: hsfpcibasic2
Registration ID: FDBC-6AB6-604C
License owner : unknown
License key : FREE
License status : FREE (max 14.4kbps data only)
Current region : NETHERLANDS (T.35 code: 007B)
The /dev/modem alias (symlink) points to ttySHSF0
Everything can indeed be found in /dev.
I was testing my modem using the command # wvdial, wvdial recognized my hsf modem and even dialled a number.
I installed mgetty (supports rockwell) and sendfax, but what do I have to do/configure to have the software work under e.g. openoffice. I read that hylafax does not support a rockwell hsf modem properly.
I just want to send a document, made in openoffice, by fax to someone, without using wvdial (just testing) or whatever.
And I hope that this special faxdriver/printer will be recognized under the command Print under File.
I hope someone can help me anyway. Thanks.
