Wow that's sure a lot to read over, I'll take a peek a bit later, but at a glance it looks OK, but possibly just expecting input? Let's remove the execute bit and see how things go:
chmod 666 /etc/rc.d/init.d/vmware
As root of course

First, you might wanna note the bits on it, post em up for future reference:
ls -lh /etc/rc.d/init.d/vmware (do this BEFORE doing the above command).

Here is what I got.

ls -lh /etc/rc.d/init.d/vmware
-r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 28K Jul 27 15:41 /etc/rc.d/init.d/vmware

Trying chmod now.

It still hangs on logout.

Cool, well not cool, but at least it's something

I've REALLY gotta get some work done, so I will take a look over that file and the list of files above a bit later this morning (it's around 530 AM here) and see if I can find something there for ya. If you can think of anything else that might come in handy, feel free to post it up

Hmm, the problem seems to be Ximian related. I removed Ximian Desktop2 and installet last version of Gnome, and the problem is no more? I know Ximian rewrites most of the Gnome rpms.

Only problem now is to get this default gnome looking like Ximian
