http://www.zenoss.com/

If you look you might be able to find some free versions of similar type software, but these are ones that I have used.

You could SSH into it using puTTY then use conky outputting to the concole instead of an X window, as the guy does here:

Hey thanks for the reply, these seem more business like, all I mean is something like what rainmeter does on windows (but pulling from my local debian server)

Maybe look at http://www.nagios.org/, its free. Still quite a bit robust, I don't know of a simpler solution like the one you have for your windows box. Hopefully someone else here can post a follow up with some other suggestions.

A well-accepted standard infrastructure for monitoring is described here: http://www.nagios.org.

http://www.nagios.com/products/nagioscore/ is the free version of nagios in case you cant find it on the site easily. Just an FYI, these products are used heavily in the IT world, learning any one of them would give you a big boost on your resume.

I believe you would install Nagios on Debian using apt, then I think it has a web interface you'd open on the windows machine.

Wrong one, you just need the core version which gives you the basic monitoring functions and a web interface:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/s...s-3.4.1.tar.gz
