Is there an alternate to microsoft iis indexing
 

I know this has been asked in a round about way.
At my work we have a huge book of documentation that needs to be online and fully searchable. We do not have any soft copies and would like to scan all the documents in. Then have iis index them, so we can search all of our support docs. I was wondering if anyone has any umput on this, since we really can't afford an additional server plus a legit copy of office xp for its imaging. Any suggestions?

I am not really familiar with scanning and OCR'ing in Linux but for indexing and searching you can use the excellent ht://Dig.

Hmm, Even if I have to use the ocr stuff and convert all the docs to html, this would still save the company money, since we would not have to set up another windows box. I wonder what this programs overhead would be as far as system resources go.

As far as system resources go it's actually not very demanding at all, but if you do have a very big site with lots of files and you want it fully indexed you will need quite a lot of disk space. On the Requirements page on the ht://Dig website there is a simple formula for calculating how much space you need.
