Is there a workaround?

I have a radeon 9700 pro using ATI fglrx driver. The driver does not support 16 bit color depth.

I installed Half Life tonight and everything went well (using winex) except half life refuses to run saying that it requires 16 bit color depth.

Can Winex tell half life that it has 16 bit color depth? Is there a way to get this to work?

thanks for any help you can offer,
jpbarto

playing with it brought on the following results...
executing just winex hl.exe instead of a hl.exe -console command took care of that problem. Now however I go into config->video mode and click OpenGL (it then tells me about driver updates an so on; which I click cancel otherwise the thing freezes) then I select 1024x768 and hit ok. Then I click Hazard Course and the game takes over the console and shows a black and white grainy image that informs me its loading and that's where it sits.

What's going on here... what's the problem? Is it not REALLY using the OpenGL drivers? Is there a config file I can check to see if it IS using the opengl drivers?

thanks again for any help,
jpbarto
