Is there a web application for searching and viewing documents?
I have a Mandriva server with a lot of documents (mostly in pdf format) on it. I want to be able to search on this server for certain documents, via the browser. Most preferably searching through the full contents, but a search on file name only would also do. When a document is found, it should be able to download it from the server, or view it on-line.
What you're looking for is called a document management system, specifically in this case a web-based document management system. There are slews of them out there but which one would be best for your particular situation I'm unsure of, there are usually a wide breadth of criteria to consider when looking at DMS.
Well, I'm not really looking for a DMS, because that's a little bit over-dimensioned for my purposes. The web app I'm looking for should just have basic search and view capabilities.
Well if you assume 'view' handled by the browser, then it shouldn't be a massive issue finding something that can index pdf files for searching and let the link be download-able or viewable. Really even that though is just a lightweight dms.
