OK, I've tried gimpshop, and the layout on my end is identical to the regular gimp layout, which I hate. I don't like having 3 windows open just to edit one image. Everytime I switch to another window (like firefox), I have to click on every single one of the 3 open gimp windows to get back to editing my image. That's a pain. I was under the assumption gimpshop put all this together? Is there something I'm missing?

Typically, I'd love a paint shop pro style program without using wine. If gimp would open as one single entity, that would be wonderful.

I LIKE the separate windows in GIMP!! I will be setting up dual monitors soon and I think GIMP's approach will be an asset.

If you do not like GIMP, try Krita.

I agree with you. Unfortunately GIMP and Krita are the only major opensource apps that resemble PhotoShop and PaintShop Pro in functionality.

indeed. I think that we will never be able to beat the Adobe team. It makes no senses to fight to duplicate the talent they have. Unless that recently their new versions are ressources consuming. Isn't the spread out of PDF an example, the compatiblity of the Adobe files ... and just wanted to compare that to Microsoft, Office, ...
Pitty in comparison with Windows, that Adobe did not develop any OS on the market, instead of Microsoft. Now look what kind of s**t/crap we are obliged to use daily

To be sure, Adobe makes some good SW---but not uniquely good. Very often, the reaction when trying something new is something like: "Why can't I do it the way I did in _______"?
We've all read posts here where people have had that reaction coming from Windows. I had the same thing moving from Photoshop to GIMP. In many ways, I now find GIMP more powerful but--in fairness--there are some real drawbacks.

what was this very famous Macintosh software some 15 years ago that looked like the first one that one, before paint shop pro even.

People were making textures with it, and creating impressing images.
I recall there was a green tree, like a bansai-tree and a chineese laidy.
In Macintosh magazine, 10-15 years ago, there was a comparisons of it to others.

Good luck to find !

I got used to the shortcuts of photoshop, and when you get used ... that's indeed the worst to change. Try to change your keyboard ... for another langage, like exotic.

Why doesn't anyone mention Xara? You'll need to fetch and install it yourself unless you use Ubuntu.

Isn't Xara a vector package? ---eg more like Adobe Illustrator than Photoshop or GIMP.
