Is there a open-source alternative to Citrix ICA?

Hi!

I just want to ask if there is an opensource alternative to Citrix ICA which is free and effective? Thanks.

it depends on what do you need it for
if you enable X forwarding for your sshd - this will let you run X application through SSH tunnel,
olso there is VNC, www.realvnc.com
rdesktop - to work over RDP protocol
KRDC - kde frontend...
and as far as I concerned, LTSP can act as Citrix client, check wiki.ltsp.org

andygo,

I know X-forwarding, VNC and others. But Citrix is really different. It runs on web browser and you can specify only which applications can be published. Any ideas on how to do those? Thanks.

You are confusing ICA, which is the network protocol used by Citrix and is similar to the one used by VNC, and Citrix Metaframe which is about publishing an application on a browser.

Sun Secure Global Desktop (formerly Tarantella) provides a similar feature.
It isn't (yet?) Open Source, but I believe it is free for personal use and it is likely to be cheaper than Citrix otherwise.

Hi!

Sorry if I've asked the wrong question. What is the difference between Citrix ICA and Citrix Metaframe? I though Citrix has the ability to access certain applications ONLY that you published using the web browser. Isn't right? I've been using VNC for quite a while but I don't want clients to access the whole X-window or the Windows GUI just the applications that you want to make public. And if possible, for example if you will be publishing Open Office 2.0, then all files can be saved on your local hard drive when you save a file. Hope you get my point. And thanks for all the tips.

Check out 2X TerminalServer. There is also an ApplicationServer program as well.
