Is Samba capable of a BDC or is it just a dream?
i heard on the grape vine that Samba does not really do the whole BDC thing. is this true?
at the moment, i have 2 servers, we'll call them Server1 and Server2. Server1 is the PDC for my domain, authenticating windows users and hosting roaming profiles (as a side comment, is it possible to administer logons like you would with a Win2003/03 server OS?). Server2 is currently a "Standalone", using Samba to share folders.
ideally, i would like Server2 to be a Backup Domain Controller so that if Server1 goes down, people can straight away log on to Server2. Please let me know if ive been fed lies and Samba does work as a BDC (and some knowledgable eyes on how to set it up), or not.
NB. i dont think its as easy as changing some Samba settings like domain logons, etc. i think if oyu were to do that, windows would wonder which server to log onto, causing havoc.
Ta, and may the Shwartz be with you
