Is Kubuntu Kino or DVDAuthor broken?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Until recently, I was able to build simple DVDs in kino on my debian Sid system, and export them via DVDAuthor and k3b at the press of a button. After switching to Heron, using kino's DVDAuthor button results in a convincing looking set of files in appropriate directories and filenames, but no DVD player I can find will play them. The VOB file plays with mplayer.

I'm at a loss as to how to debug this, not knowing much about DVD file architecture, or indeed even where to report it. Is anyone else seeing this?

kino: 1.1.1-1ubuntu2
dvdauthor: 0.6.14-1build2
