Is it possible to uninstall linux software

ive been doing some searches around this site on uninstalling software and all questions asked on this subject seem to be given the run around.

If i install a program like penguin commander, which is a game that comes in a tar file can i uninstall it later.

im new to linux and am trying out different appz and games, not everything i install i want to keep forever.

Also, i've found that i can use gnomerpm to uninstall some if not all rpm's

Usually if you installed from source,you can do a make uninstall && make clean as root as long as you kept the source.If not you'll probally have to delete it manually.

Usually when you're installing, you can use --prefix option to specify the directory the program will install to. If you specify one for every program it'll be easy to uninstall.
