is it ok to use i386 rpm for i686 machine. it sometimes worked out but i want know if is it ok.
Yes, it is ok to install i386 rpm's on an i686 machine. If your machine is i686 for example, you can always install rpm's that have an ix
86 lower or the same with yours.
Try always searching for rpm's compiled for your machine, I mean ix
86.rpm or athlon.rpm. Only if you don't find them go and install the src.rpm. These are source rpm's.You install them with
rpmbuild --rebuild --clean *.src.rpm
