I've tried compiling some apps with GCC (version 3.4.1, running on Arch Linux) but it always seems to fail; the most common error is the type of this (following code taken from a Generator-compilation's "make" step):
before this there are a lot of "error: 'something' undeclared (first use in this function)" thingies...well this could be, of course, just because the code isn't working or something. but I doubt that, since I've tried compiling quite a many apps and they all fall on this type of errors...WineX CVS-version and Generator (both original and cbiere-version), for example - the two latest. actually I've never succeeded in compiling anything except my kernel sources with this version of GCC....could it be gcc, or am I just missing something?
thanks for any help...also, if somebody could try compiling generator-0.35-cbiere with the GCC-3.4.1, and see if it works or not, I'd be thankful. at least I'd know if it's the code or not
and oh...if you guys have any tips on what I could do about this, let me know. last time my GCC worked nicely was when I used Gentoo :P
hmm....I'm pretty sure I do, but now that you mention it...better go and see the page through with a magnifier but still, could it be that I just happen to lack some libraries that every app uses I try to compile? I mean, I have installed quite a bunch of the "most common ones" (if one can say there are such things)..
no, tried with the generator...I should't lack any libraries/other things, and when I tried the binary version, it worked fine. however the gtk-version doesn't have fullscreen mode unless I patch the source and compile, which I need to do...in their website they say that the patched source should work with my version of gcc, so I'm kind of wondering...the unpatched ("normal") source won't compile either. also WineX should not need any libraries/other stuff that I don't have...
I guess I'm just not noticing something..gotta dig deeper. any help is still appreciated..
Reading your thread, I was curious, so I had a go and I can't get it to compile either, though I've only spent five minutes on it. Hang on, third time lucky, it's working now. The options that worked for me were
./configure --with-gtk --with-raze --prefix=/home/andy/tmp --with-sdl-audio
It was the --with-sdl-audio that clinched it for me. I had SDL-1.2.7 and SDL-Mixer-1.2.5 already. I'm using gcc-3.4.1 so that isn't your problem. What does this thing do anyway? Do I need to get some games to play on it?
geeze, thanks Andrew..altough I feel a bit stupid right now for not trying out something like that myself :/ though I still wonder why it wouldn't compile without SDL? well I guess the answer lies somewhere in the documentation or something..but thanks, now I got it. I guess I'll have to start digging the other projects too that won't compile, for a solution like that.
damn, how can I use that much time for a thing like that? I wouldn't have thought of some SDL-audio for being the troublemaker (or should I say solution)..but I will from now on.
and yes, it's a gaming thing; a Sega emulator...you know, the black old 16-bit thing from the past I had it once, but it broke down, and few days ago I got the feeling again that I wanted to play the games I had back in the days, that no more work with the real Sega system (cards are OK, but the machine itself does nothing but malfunction). the games you need for that are roms, images of the Sega games..
anyway, now I'll go and get some sleep...tomorrow it's the time to see what options might get WineX compile...
thanks a lot for help... (I feel like a total newbie at the moment..heh)
