AOL is horrible but....

I don't have ALO but I googled and find this it may help you
AOL in linux

AIM or AOL?

Gaim is a Linux application for doing AIM, there are others.
AOL is not yet ported to Linux, but I don't know why you wouldn't see it coming around soon. Maybe you can run it through Wine or WineX? Don't know.
