irc broken; trys to connect to localhost..
Hey,
Today I booted up my Linux box, and (as usual) fired up xchat. Tryed to connect to irc.freenode.net, but I got this: --- Looking up irc.freenode.net.. --- Connecting to localhost (127.0.0.1) port 6667.. --- Connection failed. Error: Connection refused Well, first I checked to see if it was just that computer that was acting up. I tryed connecting to IRC on another linux box and I got the same error. Then I tryed to log onto IRC with my old windows laptop; but I got the same error. Just to let you know, all of my computers are connected to a Linksys Cable/DSL router (model befsr41) by CAT5 cables. The router is connected to a DSL modem, that is (of course) connected to the net. What I do know, is that it is not a system configuration error. (because it happened on three different computers) I looked everywhere on the net, and even searched these forums; and I still could'nt find a solution. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? |
It's not your problem. I just did a DNS lookup on irc.freenode.net, and it returned 127.0.0.1!! Either they or their DNS provider screwed something up, or possibly they were hacked?
If you "dig irc.freenode.net", you will see what I mean. Ian |
woah, that is weird. Guess I have to try a different server then.
Oh and thanks for the fast reply..I thought my router went crazy or something, lol ;) |
