Internet/security Software
Hey people,
I want your opinions on these questions, please answer with a reason. Whats the best (read as easy enough but powerful once known) 1. Anti-virus 2. Firewall 3. Security checker (ie, test machines stealth) Any other online defence stuff you can recommend would be cool. I don't want any unwelcome visitors on my pc, and I know linux/open source stuff is much better than windoze! Cheers, Andy :) |
1) not really needed at the moment, but look in to stuff like f-prot.
2) Integrated into Linux, use 'iptables' to configure, or download a gui like firestarter 3) Is this what you're looking for? (shieldsup!) www.grc.com |
Yeah that ShieldsUp, thats a good test site...I used it before for my WinXP install and have since lost the address! Cheers aaa!!!! :)

I don't know much about anti-virus. As the above says, the firewall is built right into linux. For security testing, I use nessus and Nikto for testing my webservers. For port scanning, nothing beats nmap. If you want a lot of security tools in one package, check out Knoppix-std or phlak, which are live-cd distrobutions which have a plethora or tools.
