Interface ppp0 fails to start during RH9 boot

When RedHat 9 is booting, the system hangs up for a really long time when it tries to bring up the ppp0 interface. It eventually fails, but not before sitting there for a good 5 minutes attmepting to bring up the interface.

Does anyone know what might be wrong with my ppp0, or how I could keep it from trying to bring up the interface on startup so it wouldn't take such a huge chunk of time?
