Does anyone know if there is an Interact ACT! like contact manager for Linux?

The short answer is no, and I think that is where the Linux community has really missed the boat. Contact mandagement and call logging is key part of most sales and services. And the idea that you might have two contact in the same company forget it?

How much time, money and effort did some Linux companies spend developing the "prefect filemager"
while ingorning the basic needs of business.

The short answer is no,

Given that there is no contact manager software ala ACT for Linux, is there a usable way for a non technical type person to accomplish the same ends using Linux tools?

You can use Linux PIMs like JPilot and the like which are designed to synch with the Palm...

But short of that, you would either need to use a spreadsheet or create a database in something like mySQL and then create a web-based front end for it.

I too would enjoy an ACT! like application for Linux, and would even pay for it.
