Angry Intelligent scissors woe in GIMP

I'm trying to crop an image of a person and, as an occasional GIMP user, it's driving me mad.

Basic intelligent scissors use is OK. To get a selection, I seem to have to
1. Deselect all
2. Make sure quick mask is on
3. Select the area
4. Click inside the selection

So far so good. Now I want to crop it and get rid of everything outside the selection. The only way I can see to do it is to cut or copy the selection and then paste as new image. No problem, *but*

- when I use cut, the pasted image is just a black sillouette.
- when I use copy, the pasted image is just a white sillouette.

If I do a regular select (e.g. rectangle tool) and do the same thing, it pastes the selected portion of the image correctly.

I'm using GIMP 2.2.8 on OpenSuse 10.

Thanks,

Iain.

I would just use the invert selection to select all but what you WANT to save, then hit the delete key. Then you are left with a transparent bg and a person/object. Then you can resize the image(if that is your desire) and viola. This way, same image, no worrying abotu copy/paste.

This look very bug-like.

I've tried the inverting business a bit more and got different results.

- I tried it with the freehand selection tool and it works fine.
- I tried it with intelligent scissors and it worked once, gave me a white screen one and did absolutely nothing at all several times.

Looks like an upgrade and fingers crossed.

Upgraded to Gimp 2.2.10 and intelligent scissors works fine, so looks like it was a bug in 2.2.8.
