instant messanger


I was just wondering what instant messangers there are for linux.... knoppix only comes with gaim... I can't try another cd since I got files and setting stored in ram.... my hdd died and I'm running on a live cd.

Kopete is another, but Gaim is probably the best of the lot.

You can download the new Gaim from here:

There are a few out there, but I find GAIM the best too.

Well, gaim will not connect to AIM for some reason. It just hangs and then says the connect was lost.

aMSN if you only want msn accounts. It's by far, the best (related to msn stuff)

AOL keeps changing protocols,so you often need the latest release of any messenger client to get their service to work.
yahoo has an official linux release.another client i've been using lately is gyache enhanced.

Double check your username and password. If that doesn't work, try upgrading from that link I posted. My gaim is working just fine right now on AOL and Yahoo.

new question, what is the default root password for knoppix? I'm booting off live cd.

i use: centericq which can be run in a terminal. Pretty neat. or Gaim.

Concerning Gaim and MSN: Is it possible to display my buddy's status in the conversation window? I can't find an option in preferences.
