Installing Xwindows on intel 810 chipset

hiiiii

i'm having a pc with pentium 3 500 Mhz...and intel
810 chipset...

I have tried to install linux over again and again over
a last few year....but in vain....

At first i installed Red Hat linux 6.1 and it installed successfully
except for sound...which was due to lack of 810 support..Xwindows was configured properly...

But due to some probs with motherboard...i had to change
it with a simlar other motherboard......

When i tried to install linux again...it has been givin
me trouble again and again...first of all it didn't install....
install time in the beginning....it used to show 15 min....as
the install proceded it used to go higher and higher...and
finally aborted....

Finally it got installed..I tried to configure Xwindows...
it detected my 810 chipset..and also SAMTRON 55V monitor
but didn't Let X run.....

It falied with a messages like."agppart failed to open
1024 pages" and such other messages...

I have tried all type of configurations...but in vain...

PLEASE help me out....

If I were you I'd try one of the newer distro's that's using 2.4.x as its got some support for different AGP access that's used by X (AFAIK) so it might give you more joy.

Just a thought.

You might be able to get some cheap from somewhere like http://freelinuxcd.org/ or http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk/cheap.html

Its probably worth trying the latest 2.2 kernel too (2.2.19 AFAIK), if your short on bandwidth just download the patches and apply those to your existing source, its a lot less to download than the full kernel, you need to apply them in order mind you! So if you're currently on something like 2.2.16 the you would need to get the 2.2.17, 2.2.18 and 2.2.19 patches!

HTH
