Besides: which is the best software to scan photograph and producing jpegs?

This is the one thing I still can't do in Linux. Please help me finishing my migration from windows...

Hah, one thing I think I can answer... and the answer is Vuescan!

Thing is, you'd have to purchase it ... Lindows OS' Click N' Run service, assuming your a subscriber, offers it for free...
