Installing The Fedora Project

I have downloaded (The Fedora Project verson 2 i386). I checked it out on one pc and it works. Yet when I try to install it on another it gets as far as the kernel and reboots the system.

There are only like two lines after it ask me how I want to install it and then and switches to another screen where it says something about the kernel and then reboots.

System specs:
3 hd first (10GB it windows XP) second (4 GB files for windows such as doc) Third (4 GB nothing on it, I am keeping it for Linux, red hat was on it but I formatted it):
700 mhz:
256 mb of ram:
4 mb of on board graphics card:
one CD player 56X:

Wow, you have 256MB of memory, but only a 4MB video?

Anyway, are you sure that you had enough free space on the Linux partition? Did you do a custom install or a full?

Or maybe it's a bootloader problem, did you make a boot disk when you installed Fedora?

I downloaded 4 disks, the first boots up and will take me into the installation on one of the pcs. However it does not want to even get past the 3rd line and it reboots the system on the second pc (the one I want it on) I did install Linux red hat and mandrake on it before. And at present there is nothing on the hd that I want to install it.

I get as far as when the Linux program ask me how do I want to install it by text or GUI I tried both.

But a far as making a boot disk the only thing I did was dl the 4 isos and burn them to 4 disks

I'm thinking this is a bootloader problem. Did you install LILO or Grub when you installed Fedora?

I do not know about that. Like I said, all I did was dl the 4 ISO disks, the i386 version 2 and I use them.

Note: I can install it on one of the PCs but not on the second pc it reboots not allowing me to get to even the language or keyboard selection. The only thing I select is install using GUI or Text I tried both.

What I do is dl the ISO then use Nero to burn them the way I should which I have done many many times. The Disks do work, that I know, because I can install them on other PCs.

I have heard of LILO and Grub, but to my knowledge I never had to choose between them when installing Linux.

I know the installation works up to a point because I tried it out on another pc but I stopped it when it asked me to select the keyboard, because I did not need it on that pc. Do you think it could be the PC or could it be bios or what?

I have the same problem as you, I had SUSE running on this machine, downloaded the new fedora 2 burned the cd,s when the cd boots up, it gets as far as loading up anaconda and then it crashes and the computer reboots.

this is on a IWILL MPX2 with dual Atlhon MP's 2400 and 1 gig corsair ram with latest bios.

this core 2 is way too alpha for me. guess I'll go back to SUSE.

the only reason I did this is I was setting up tomcat on Apache and the instructions I had were based on a redhat installation, I got as far as rebooting and tomcat running once on the SUSE installation, and then I could not get it to work again, since I'm a newbie on Linux I figured I would do it on redhat and see if it went better.

the Apache examples for redhat are in /usr/local/apache2 BUT in SUSE as far as I can tell Apache is all over the place(keep in mind I'm new on Linux) no bashing was meant .
