Installing SuSE Linux 8.0 Professional

I have SuSE Version 7.3 Professional installed, but, when I try to install Version 8.0, Disk1 will not boot the machine (yes, I did change the BIOS to do that), and the floppy boot disk I made cannot find "initrd". The command "dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/dev/null" showed about the number of records the help desk said should show up.
I copied Disk 1 to my hard drive, and "initrd" is on the disk. Disk2 will not work, either.
