Installing SUSE 7.3 through FTP

I was trying to install SUSE through ftp, but i encountered a problem:
To connect to the internet through dhcp i have to set my hostname, otherwise it can't connect. But in the installation program on the bootdisk i can't change it anywhere..... Anyone know how i can fix this????

Well if you can get a terminal window up (or if you're in text mode) you might be able to manually start dhcpcd and send the hostname. Try <ctrl><alt><f2> (or f3?) to get to a working console and type
Code:

dhcpcd -h yourhostname
I used to be able to just manually set up my IP for my cable modem but now they have gone to a _very_ dynamic config.

But i can't get a console up. ctrl+alt+f2 or f3 just gives me a blank screen.

Anybody an idea???

If you usually get the same IP address every time you lease via DHCP you may be able to use that IP address (set it manually).

If you know anybody with a home router - borror it - (linksys, 3Com, etc) you could connect it to your cable modem and then connect your pc to it with a static IP on the same subnbet (ie: 192.168.0.xxx). It works in our firewalled network quite nicely.

Is this your only pc?

Can you setup another one for the connection?

Yes, I usually have the same ip adress, but I still have to set the hostname of my pc, only the ip does not work. Although this isn't my only pc, the others don't have a network card in it and I don't know anybody who has a router.
