installing styles & themes

I have never been able to install a style/theme/window decoration for KDE by doing:

./configure > make > make install

The style/theme/whatever doesn't show up in the KDE control centre.

What am I doing wrong? Everything seems to finish OK, but then again, it doesn't tell me that the theme installed successfully or anything like that...

However, I installed a couple styles by running:

sh <insert filename here>.sh

which seemed to do the same thing as ./configure > make > make install, except it said that it was installed successfully (or something to that effect) and the style showed up in the KDE control centre.

RPMs work for styles about 1/4 or the time.

Any tips? I must be doing something wrong ...

Did you make install as root or as the user?

Where did you get the theme? I will have a look and see if I can figure out what is going wrong.

I've had a look and all seems well - in a console, type 'whereis plastik'. That should tell you where the theme resides - it may be that it unpacks in a place that Mandrake isn't looking. I think that you will then be able to manually browse to it. It's possible that this has happenend to your other themes.

After a lot of tries, I finally got at least the Plastik window decoration installed. I tried installing it to many different places, and it seems as if /usr/local/kde works.

I typed 'whereis plastik' in a console, and it just said 'plastik:'

I wish styles could be installed like icon sets - MUCH easier.
