Installing Samba from tar.gz file
I am using Feather 0.6.0 and have tried apt-get install samba 3-4 times. I have done a dpkg restore, apt-get -f install and still apt-get samba is corrupted and gives me errors upon trying to install. So I downloaded Samba-3.0.7.tar.gz from the Samba site. I unzipped it fine and it is now sitting in a /home/knoppix/drh/Samba-3.0.7. I read the README file and there were no specific install instructions so I tried logging in as root and cd'd to the directory mentioned above (/home/knoppix/drh/Samba-3.0.7) and ran ./configure and XTerm told me that it was a bad command. What command do I run in XTerm to configure, make install and install this software?
