installing RH7.1 on a Compaq deskpro

Trying to install RH 7.1 on a Compaq Deskpro. I get as far as installing image to harddrive. then X fails and i get a EDD warning 0x1600 not supported. and a Python error. could this be because of the 2.4 kernel and the RH packages not being compatible yet? Or could it be a resolution problem. I may try putting RH 7.0 on tomarrow. Please help if someone can. Thank you.

I had a similar problem. RH tech support suggested installing in text mode and that worked.

There are alot of problems getting linux to install on Compaq boxes from what I've seen in my very, very limited experience.

I got 7.1 to install but couldn't get a gui to work. I eventually gave up and installed on a Gateway pc and all works OK.

Thank you. I will take that suggestion on text mode and try that. It may be that that computer is older. I had mandrake 7.0 and 8.0 and RH 7.0 on another compaq machine that I have. Who knows, the computer may being stubern.
