installing packages using yum in fedora
Hi,
I'm a little bit confused. I lately installed Fedora Core 1 and very happy with that. But as i'm getting more used with linux, i want to have more programs to make my life better and easier. Firstly, i was installing new packages using the command rpm. Now i heard, that it's more easier to do it with yum. I used yum to install gftp, and it was successful. But my question is, where can i find names of the packages i could install to fedora. Is there some kind of database or a list (with more specific description to each program or package) to see, what is available for installing. --- Sven |
You can go to the server your yum.conf points to to see what is supplied there. Use your browser to access the server.
Or, if you know a specific program you want, you can "yum search programname", and it will tell you any packages that contain the program name. |
