If anyone is familiar with installing packages in Crux Linux, please help.I am enjoying the advantage of learning Linux by configuring my own system and compiling software myself. This is the first time, however, I've ran into the ports system. Everything goes well unless I get "footprint mismatch" found, and nothing I do corrects an installation. Any ideas? Also, why can't .tar.gz packages I download myself (I can't find them in any collections of ports) install? Do you always have to use a port?

Crux is a fine distro, run ports -u to update your ports tree, and ports -d to see what is installed and what is newer than what you have installed, then prt-get sysup to update your whole system...

as far as the footprint mismatch is it no big deal usually they did not update the footprint file, you can ignore the footprint file with the -if switch so to update everything and to not let a footprint mismatch get in the way i would run:

prt-get -if sysup


also it pays to run:
prt-get help
and
ports --help

i know this reply is late in coming as not too many people use Crux on Linux questions that i know of and there is no Crux section in the forums...
