Talking Installing Oracle 8i on RH9

I was trying to install Oracle 8i on redhat 9.0 - the installation starts with runInstaller and
then i get an error message that the symbol
GLIC_2.0 is not found in glic.so needed by some libzip.so

The installation dies and does not start at all...

the same installation works fine with RH 8.0. I even tried
to install the glic packages of RH8 and got into trouble as some of my programs stopeed working due to dependencies - somehow i recovered the system from the boot CD using resuce and re-intalling the glic RPM for RH9.0

are not these glibc libraries backward compatible ?

and in case i want to get past this what am i supposed to do ?
