Installing Open VM Tools on Fedora Core 4
Hi all,
So, I have a server running Fedora Core 4 (yes, I know :( ). I am looking to install a version of "open-vm-tools" / "kmod-open-vm-tools" that will work on the system. Is there a way I can manually compile and install this on my system to add the functionality. Thanks, DC. |
Here you go.
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/pro...or=superb-dca2 If for some reason that is too new, then try finding a version that works here. |
on fedora4
you do not install anything even remotely newish are you using the royally messed up LVM introduced in 4 it WAS BAD , very BAD it went END of LIFE back in "2006-08-07" so it is missing NINE YEARS of security updates and fixes it is a security NIGHTMARE but if you MUST ( as in there really IS a gun to your head ) ask over at the fedora END OF LIFE forum thread http://www.forums.fedoraforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=75 any VM software will have to be from BEFORE 2006 and that WILL be a big problem |
VMware Tools from Workstation 5.5.0, released in 2005:
ftp://ftp.pl.vim.org/vol/rzm1/tucows...0-18463.tar.gz Not the open source version, but it will work on your version of Fedora. Open the archive, navigate to /vmware-distrib/lib/isoimages/linux.iso |
Thanks to "Ihatewindows522" your solution worked perfectly.
As it happened, we worked out how to port the system settings over, so have actually managed to get a fully operational system on Fedroa 22 that can be esaily managed. Appreciate the help. |
