I see that winetricks includes physx, but when I either run that, or just run the physx installer executable under wine, a dialogue pops up that tells me I need to reboot before installing. Hitting either yes or no shuts down the program and creates a file at "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/Wise Installation Wizard/". Running the program a second time yields exactly the same results. I've tried deleting my ~/.cache/winetricks folder.

Is there a way to have the program think I've rebooted already, or to circumvent the reboot dialogue? How does this normally work successfully running 'winetricks physx'?

I've got winetricks version 20110105, wine-1.2.2, and I'm running on Slackware64 13.0 using the proprietary 64-bit nvidia driver 260.19.44.

why not run this unnamed program that needs the physx engine on MS windows

Why not run anything that uses wine on Windows? Why not just run everything on Windows? Why use Linux at all?

Because I prefer Linux, and would like to be able to someday do what I like with my computer without resorting to MS products.

well wine only runs some windows programs
and even the ones it dose run can run 20X slower than on windows

so without even knowing what needs the physx engine ???

just reboot

Rebooting my linux system would have no effect on whether the program under wine thinks that I've rebooted. In fact, I've coincidentally rebooted several times now since initially running the program.

I'd appreciate productive input.
