1 last, quick question...

while compiling the kernel, do i have to issue the command make install just after make bzImage, or can I leave this command out totally and copy the kernel across myself? (which is what I'd like to do..)

hmmm...seems to be a problem...

how can i make sure that the module is being loaded correctly, without any problems?

I'm trying to do this:

ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255

now, when i go:

ping 192.168.0.200 (which is my machine...) it gets no replys....so I can't really tell where the problem lies because I don't even know whether the module is getting loaded correctly, or whether its getting assigned to the right NIC, etc...

EDIT: Well, I _think_ the module is getting loaded correctly...I've got the network cable plugged into eth0 (eepro100) and when i ping my machine (192.168.0.200) the network lights flash...

But it still isn't getting any replies..!
