Installing Linux software on windows 7

i have a question,

im trying to RUN a LINUX based software on my windows 7 computer. I changed the boot settings to run from my cdrom(the linux software is installed on). But do I actually need to have a linux operating system to run a linux based program or can I just boot up the software as is?

im new to this and im having a problem because it keeps giving me a error message saying

MOUNTING DEV/SDA1 FAILED ON /CDROM: DEVICE DOESNT EXIST???
