Installing Kaspaliste from sources - semi-failure

I'm tying to install a program(Kaspaliste, a literature database/reference manger on steroids) from sources. After having resolved a few dependency issues, I compiled and installed without errors, but when it starts i looks nothing like it does in the documentation, e g all the menus, except Help, are missing, it doesn't do anything, and so on.

I'm using Mandrake 9.0

Anyone got any ideas, or would it be good etiquette to contact the author about this?

Thanks a lot in advance.

I have had the same problem. I suspect a problem with the QT distro but am not sure. Anyone else have ideas on this?

I emailed the author and he never replied. His site said he would happily receive email about the software--perhaps he only receives it. That's ok. I'm busy too. I have tried using bookbase and elog both:
Bookbase http://bookbase.sourceforge.net/
Elog http://midas.psi.ch/elog/
