Question installing java on red hat 9 with mozilla 1.2.1

Hi,

Downloaded the j2re-1_4_2_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin from java.sun.com ; followed the instructions and installed the rpm ..

subsequently created the linked the file: /usr/java/j2re*/plugin/i386/ns610/ libjavaplugin_oji.so to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.

On opening Mozilla windoe in Help -> About Plug-ins -> shows :

Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4.2_02-b03
All the different MIME types
default plugin as * and enabled..

However I still cannot run java applets...

Am I missing something?
Do I have to fill in the Edit -> preferences -> Helper Application forms..
If yes, could anybody help me through it?

Thanks.

Hi.

Try linking the ns610-gcc32 plugin instead of the ns610 plugin. i.e. link /usr/java/j2re*/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/ libjavaplugin_oji.so to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

Dave

P.S. don't forget to close and reopen Mozilla.

Smile been able to load java on mozilla 1.2.1

Hi ilikejam
thanks for your tip: I tried it but it did not work..
finally I tried this:
I used the same ns610 plugin and linked it to the mozilla1.2.1/plugins directory and not the mozilla/plugins directory: both were present in /usr/lib.
It seems to have worked perfectly..
java applets are running cool.
