Installing Intel X3100 driver in Linux Mint 5

Hi everyone. I recently (a week ago) purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 for the specific reason of installing Mint 5 and joining a Linux User group here in Brisbane, Australia.

I have no experience in Linux so I researched laptops carefully for compatibility and read that the Inspiron 1525 was very compatible, which is why I bought one.

The problem I am having is that Envy wants to update ATI or Nvidia drivers. When I try to update and therefore use the driver for the X3100 nothing happens.

I have no idea how to find a linux X3100 driver or download and install it. Is there a kind person out there who might be able to help? I must explain that I am less than a novice in Linux and need to be hand held with explanations so easy a child could understand. I would appreciate that. Thank you.

My system:
Inspiron 1525 - 1.83 GHz.
160 GB SATA HD.
2GB RAM. Intel
Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

Looking forward to solving this problem.

BTW, I read on the net that this driver is supposed to come with Ubuntu, the core of Mint 5, but it didn't seem to work on my computer. It would be nice if it did and maybe I'm doing something totally wrong and, therefore, not understanding the basics of using Linux. If this is the case could you please point me in the right direction - in the way you would a child. Remember I don't know jargon, terms or even the names of some of the stuff in Linux.

Many thanks.

The driver is included with Mint. The driver name is Intel. to see if you are using it, from a terminal;
cd /etc/X11
cat xorg.conf | grep Driver
