installing GRUB from windows XP


I had to reinstall windows XP on my laptop and it wrote over GRUB. I cannot get to my linux partition to reinstall it. I was wondering if there was a way to install it from windows.

make a grub bootdisk and follow the instructions.

I found this on google BTW

unfortunatly my laptop does not have a floppy drive. is there anyway to do that booting from CD or USB disk?

I don't see why not. There are many documents on the net that discuss making CD images from floppy images.

Man, I wonder how often I have answered this question - did you bother to search ???.
You cannot install grub from windows - well, not simply anyway.

Reboot your Linux distro CD - I'd be pretty sure you can get into a recovery mode on all of them.
If not, go get a LiveCD - Knoppix is good, systemrescue also has all the tools.
chroot into you disk environment and reinstall grub - maybe backup grub.conf/menu.lst first to save some re-typing.

No argument there.
Somebody had to have done it somewhere - I wasn't going to go looking.
