Installing grub

Hey, hows it going, I have a quick question, not real hard, just diffucult to understand.

When I installed slackware 10.2 I opted to not install a boot loader because it only provided lilo, which i have had bad experiences with. When i formatted the hard drive i created a /dev/hda1 as /boot. Now how do I go about installing grub on the /boot partiton.

Can I do it while im in X or do I have to do it a special way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't have it already, you can get the tarball from gnu grub . Unpack it and read the documentation. It's a good step-by-step to install it. Or, follow the link to documentation in the left panel of that webpage and read before you try.

Also go to:

http://slackware.mirrors.pair.com/sl....2/extra/grub/

this is the official package for slack. it includes a utility called grubconfig ( must be run as root ) that will set everything up for you with a decent ncurses based interface.
