installing gnome volume manager

hi ppl..

i'm trying to compile gnome-volume manager on to my ubuntu systems..
on compilation i get the foll error

root@ARVIND:/home/arvind/Desktop/Software/gnome-volume-manager-1.5.15# /usr/arv/bin/gnome-volume-manager --sm-client-id default4 --daemon=yes

(gnome-volume-manager:2674): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.

the default gnome-volume manager doesnt work either (it was working on system boot, when i had to kill it to debug my own version)

root@ARVIND:/home/arvind/Desktop/Software/gnome-volume-manager-1.5.15# gnome-volume-manager

(gnome-volume-manager:2707): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.

can someone plz tell me the reason for this error..

thanx in advance..

Do you mind me asking why you're compiling it yourself? If the original worked (as you seemed to say) then it seems like needless pain. Unless you're doing it for learning exercise.

i am basically debugging the volume manager.. i want to find the messages that are sent by hald and hald-runer to the manager via dbus...

You mean debugging for development purposes? In that case I don't know how to help you except to say that the Gnome mailing lists would be the best place to get assistance.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that some dependencies are missing (check the output of any configuration scripts) or that there is some sort of version mismatch between gnome-volume-manager and other parts of Gnome and/or HAL.

i've checked the dependencies and the config log messages.. i think i'm doing it all rite.. there is no problem in installation ofthe manager..
i'll check it again though andpost later..
thanx
