[SOLVED] installing git on centos 5.4

I am not sure as to what I am doing wrong. I am unable to install a version of git. Please see below:

This is perl, v5.8.8 built for i386-linux-thread-multi

[root@localhost Desktop]# curl --version
curl 7.15.5 (i686-redhat-linux-gnu) libcurl/7.15.5 OpenSSL/0.9.8b zlib/1.2.3 libidn/0.6.5

[root@localhost Desktop]# locate expat
/lib/libexpat.so.0
/lib/libexpat.so.0.5.0

I downloaded the git package from rpmforge.

Please let me know how to get it installed. Thanks for your time and suggestions.
