installing giFT as a normal user

Is it possible to install giFT as a normal user?
When trying to do so I got a permission denied to create a folder under /usr/local/share which is obvious since the root user is the only one which has the write permission.
Unfortunately I do not have a root account.
Is there a work around it to get it installed?

This seems odd to me.

Are you trying to install this on someone elses computer? Why don't you have root?

It would seem as you have "alternative" motives here. If not.....please give us some more info :)

Peace,
Whitehat

well you can always use the ./configure --prefix= command to compile gift btu as whitehat noted...why do you not have root permission since a p2p software should not be installed on a company/school/(anything formal) computer but only on a home machine.

It is so simple I want to watch Naruto episodes and at home I have a slow and unstable connection.
