If you look at the Add-ons Manager on Firefox and click on "Plugins" does it show the Shockwave Flashplayer as installed?

Then your flash plugin is not installed. Can you post the output of this command.
Code:

ls -a ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
Do it logged on as yourself. Don't logon as root or use sudo.

No, you left out the dot "." before "mozilla". Try again.

That is your problem. You must move libflashplayer.so to the /home/david/.mozilla/plugins folder. Your mistake was your ran the this command as root:
Code:

root@bt:~/flash# cp -f libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/
The result is that libflashplayer.so was placed in /root/.mozilla/plugins and not in /home/david/.mozilla/plugins where it belongs.
Please mark this thread as [Solved] if flashplayer now runs after moving that file.
