Installing Firefox - libgtk
What do i need to do to make firefox install?
I get this error when running the installer. (./firefox-installer) Error: ./firefox-installer-bin: error in loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory I've been googling and have seen that this might have something to do with glibc... but obviously i'm a noob at linux... so i'm not sure how to go about even installing glibc if that is what i need to do. Any help is greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance. Specs: thinkpad 380z piece of crappola suse linux (old one.. i think 6.something) |
Which DE are you running? Gnome or KDE (or something else)? Do you have gtk installed (look for libgtk2, or gtk-2, or stuff like that)?

more info
I'm using KDE and i did a search for some of that stuff you mentioned but i couldn't find anything.. so i need to install gtk? would that be one of the packages on the suse disks?
I went to www.gtk.org and tried to download gtk, but it said that "the document contained no data"... I guess i'll keep lookin for a gtk tarball thanks! |
What is your distro
|
i'm not sure exactly what you mean by distro.. it is Suse 6.4.. is there a shell command to show what distro?
edit:.. i just looked in /usr/lib/ and found libgtk 1.2.so.0 ... does that mean i need to update/upgrade to libgtk 2.0? if so.. how is that done? |
suse 6.4 would be your distro can i also make a suggestion? why not upgrade suse6.4 to suse 10.0 its really nice:)
|
i've heard that suse 10 is really nice.. and it makes sense to upgrade... :D
i just used the 6.4 disks because that's what i had at the time.. do you know if it has any higher hardware requirements? because my laptop is definitely BOTTOM of the line.. :D edit:: I just downloaded the internet install for suse 10... it booted up and i hit install.... it goes through a bunch of text and freezes on "3 pagefiles" with a dash on the next line.... and.... then nothing happens.... lol |
